Kings Fans Fundraising Effort: HereWeBuild

A new grassroots effort, called #HereWeBuild, in Sacramento to support the construction of a new arena, with or without the Kings, was started yesterday after Anaheim officials approved a $75million in bonds to lure the Kings. @CarmichaelDave began collecting pledges, and by midnight around $100,000 had come in. It didn’t take long for that amount to double and now we’re looking in the neighborhood of a quarter of a million dollars!

Some big names have donated and some local businesses have helped out the cause considerably. For example, @JiffyLube pledged $25,000 (+donations =$30,500) and provided space on several digital billboards to display messages supporting the cause, including, “All things start somewhere…”

In these uncertain days, with Sacramento’s black and purple legion feeling bruised, even the most devoted Kings fans can succumb to conspiracy theories.
